Hormone imbalances can cause fatigue, mood swings, weight gain, and a loss of vitality that affect every part of your well-being. At Balanced Body Health and Wellness, we offer bio-identical hormone pellet therapy, a natural and long-lasting way to restore hormonal balance for men and women. This convenient treatment delivers steady hormone levels to help you feel like yourself again.

What Are Hormone Pellets?

Hormone pellets are small, rice-sized cylinders compounded with estradiol or testosterone to form bio-identical hormones. The pellet is inserted in the skin near the hip. These hormones are structurally identical to those produced by your body. And they release the hormones through the bloodstream, similar to how the ovaries and testes release hormones.

At Balanced Body Health and Wellness, we use custom-compounded pellets made from natural plant sources (bio-identical hormones), designed to precisely match each patient’s hormonal needs .

What Is Hormone Pellet Therapy Used For?

Hormone pellet therapy is commonly used to treat symptoms of hormonal imbalance caused by aging, menopause, perimenopause, andropause (low testosterone in men), or other endocrine disorders. It helps optimize estrogen and testosterone levels to restore energy, mood, sexual health, and cognitive function.

What Symptoms Does Hormone Pellet Therapy Help With?

Patients often turn to hormone pellet therapy for relief from:

  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Decreased libido or sexual function
  • Mood changes or anxiety
  • Poor focus or brain fog
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Hot flashes or night sweats (in women)
  • Loss of bone density

What Are The Advantages Of Hormone Pellets vs Other Routes

Unlike creams, patches, suppositories, or injections, hormone pellets offer steady and reliable hormone delivery without the daily hassle. Benefits include:

  • Pellets release hormones gradually, avoiding the highs and lows often occurring with other methods.
  • One insertion lasts several months, so no daily dosing or frequent office visits.
  • Made from plant-based ingredients that mimic your body’s natural hormones.
  • Pellets deliver hormones directly into the bloodstream for optimal bioavailability.
  • No skin irritation from creams or fluctuations seen with shots.

How Are Hormone Pellets Inserted?

The insertion process is quick and virtually painless. During your appointment, a provider sterilizes and then numbs a small area, typically near the hip or upper buttock, and inserts the pellet under the skin using a tiny incision. The site is then covered with a small bandage. The procedure takes just a few minutes and requires no stitches, only steri-strips. Once the numbing agent wears off, you may feel an ache in the insertion spot, but it will subside over time as the site heals.

How Long Do Hormone Pellets Last?

Depending on individual metabolism and activity level, hormone pellets typically last between 3-6 months. Over time, the body naturally absorbs the pellets as the hormones are released. Your provider will schedule regular follow-up testing to determine when it’s time for your next insertion.

Are There Any Side Effects From Hormone Pellet Therapy?

Most patients tolerate pellet therapy very well. Mild side effects, such as temporary bruising, swelling, or tenderness at the insertion site, may occur but usually resolve within a few days.

Some people experience mild hormone-related changes as the body adjusts. Your provider will monitor your hormone levels to ensure optimal dosing and minimize side effects. Some side effects are:

  • Acne
  • Hair growth
  • Mood shifts

Hormone Pellet Therapy Aftercare Guide

  • Keep the area clean and dry for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid soaking in baths, pools, and hot tubs for 7 days.
  • Keep the waterproof bandage on for the full 7 days.
  •  Monitor for bleeding- a small amount, of pink or red, can be normal. If bleeding occurs & saturates the bandage, contact your provider. Pressure can be applied over the bandage.
  • If you experience bruising or swelling, apply an ice pack for around 10 minutes twice a day on the insertion site. No direct heat.
  • Refrain from vigorous lower-body exercise for 5-7 days to allow time for proper healing.
  • Leave the steri-strips on for 7 days. If they fall off sooner, apply a bandage to the area.

When To Call Your Provider:

Contact your provider if you notice persistent pain, redness, swelling, drainage, or signs of infection around the insertion site. Also, reach out if you experience any unusual symptoms or have questions about how you’re feeling after treatment.
